Jesus and Osiris

This myth that the Gospel writers plagiarized from the ancient Egyptian god Osiris has been around for a while but as of late it has been re-popularized and embraced by those who believe it without knowing the facts. If we are going to understand the comparisons of these two, we must first know the stories. Most know about Jesus’ virgin birth, deity, death, and resurrection, so I will be focusing on the story of Osiris/Isis/Horice.

Osiris was born of a god and goddess, Geb and Nut, great grandson of Ra. It was common that “gods” would be physically born of other “gods”. Osiris has 4 siblins 3 of significance Seth, Isis and Nephthys. Osiris married his sister, Isis and Seth married his sister, Nephthys. Nephthys took the form of Isis and seduced Osiris and bore a son (Anubis). Seth found out and got mad, throwing Osiris in a coffin and drowning him in the Nile river. Isis recovered the body, but Seth stole it cut it into pieces and hid the pieces throughout the Egyptian desert. Isis spent years looking for the pieces after recovering them, she used her magic to bring him to life. they later concieved the “god” Horus. Osiris later died again and performed his duties as “god of the underworld.” Critics of Christianity take this story and compare it to Jesus Christ as being an identical story. Using his birth from two “gods” as Jesus being the son of God (as if God had a baby) the death of Osiris as the death of Jesus (I don’t see how they correlate those two) and Osiris’ bringing back to life as a mirror of Jesus being resurrected from the dead.

they also make outrageous claims that have no backing you can see more here.

the only account of the Osiris story was written in 100 A.D. and the story of this was said to be in 2300ish B.C. (we you thought the gospels were far removed from the event?) If the life of Jesus was plagiarized from anywhere it would have been from the old testament, where it describes his virgin birth 1,000ish years before his physical birth (Isaiah 7:14) Son of God (Psalm 2:7) Born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2) his side pierced (Zechariah 12:10) Crucifixion (Psalm 22:11-18) Resurrection (Psalm 16:9-11). Their is also no proof that this story was even known by ANYONE in the middle east during the time of Jesus.
