Word Of Faith

hinnThe word of Faith movement seems to be growing. With an increasing number of Christians not wanting to study the scripture for themselves,  they rather take the televangelists word for it, and end up in Heresy.

The “word-faith” teaching may be summarized as follows: God created man in “God’s class,” as “little gods,” with the potential to exercise what they refer to as the “God-kind of faith” in calling things into existence and living in prosperity and success as sovereign beings. Of course, we forfeited this opportunity by rebelling against God in the Garden and taking upon ourselves Satan’s nature. To correct this situation, Jesus Christ became a man, died spiritually (thus taking upon Himself Satan’s nature), went to hell, was “born again,” rose from the dead with God’s nature again, and then sent the Holy Spirit so that the incarnation could be duplicated in believers, thus fulfilling their calling to be what they call “little gods.” Since we’re called to experience this kind of life now, we should be successful in virtually every area of our lives. To be in debt, then, or be sick, or (as is even taught by the faith teachers) to be left by one’s spouse, simply means that you don’t have enough faith – or you have some secret sin in your life, because if you didn’t, you would be able to handle all of these problems. (taken from Hank Hannagraaff)

This theology is dangerous and heretical, It promotes Man and Demotes God, it deifies man and suppressed Jesus. It undermines the Sovereignty of God and makes up a Sovereignty of man.

Let me for the sake of shock value give some quotes from popular Word of Faith preachers

Kenneth Copeland

  • “Adam was not subordinate to God”
  • “Faith is a Force”
  • “Adam was God manifested in the flesh” (I thought that was Jesus?)
  • “God is approximarely 6’2″ to 6’3″ and weighs approximately 200 lbs.” (hey that’s my specs.)
  • “Jesus death of the cross was not enough to save us.”

Benny Hinn

  • “Christians are little gods”
  • “Jesus at his death became one with Satan”
  • “Poverty comes from Hell, Prosperity comes from heaven”
  • “when you don’t give money, it shows that you have the devil’s nature.”
  • “Adam went to the moon.”

Kenneth Hagin

  • “We are Christ”
  • “Christ’s physical death on the cross was not enough to save us.”
  • “Jesus tasted spiritual death.”

Fred Price

  • “you can have what you say”
  • “You can’t glorify God if you are sick”
  • “Jesus and the disciples were rich.”

Joyce Meyer

  • “Whatever it took to get God’s people back, free again, is what they would do. Jesus paid for our sins on the cross and went to hell in our place.”
  • “There is no hope of anyone going to heaven unless they believe this truth. You cannot go to heaven unless you believe with all your heart that Jesus took your place. He became your substitute and took all the punishment you deserve. He bore all your sins. He paid the dept you owe…Jesus went to hell for you. He died for you. He paid for your sins.”
  • He (Jesus) was resurrected from the dead, the first born-again man”

Joel Osteen

  • “You may make some mistakes-but that doesn’t make you a sinner. You’ve got the very nature of God on the inside of you.”
  • “We’ve all sinned, failed, and made mistakes, But many people don’t know they can receive God’s mercy and forgiveness. As long as you’re doing your best and desire to do what’s right according to God’s Word, you can be assured God is pleased with you.”
  • “…I think we use God’s word. I think the principles that you hear Dr. Phil and some of those others talk about many times are right out of the Bible…”
  • Interviewer: “To become a better you, you must be positive towards yourself, develop better relationships, embrace the place where you are.”
    Osteen: “Yeah.”
Interviewer: “Not one mention of God in that? Not one mention of Jesus Christ in that?”
Osteen: “That’s just my message There is scripture in there that backs it all up, but I feel like, Byron, I’m called to help people, how do we walk out the Christian life, how do we live it? And these are principles that can help you. I mean, there’s a lot better people qualified to say, ‘Here’s a book that’s gonna explain the scriptures to you.’ I don’t think that’s my gifting.”
  • “WE BELIEVE…as children of God, we are overcomers and more than conquerors and God intends for each of us to experience the abundant life He has in store for us.”

This kind of teaching is non-biblical and heretical, it is damaging to God’s good name and damaging to a person, for instance:

1.        if you are sick that means you don’t have enough faith and it is only from the devil that sickness comes when the Bible tells us that “…from the mouth of the Most High that good and bad come” Lamentations 3:38.

2.       Word of faith teachers also tell us that Jesus had to go to hell to pay for our sins. While the Jesus says that “it is Finished” ( John 19:30 )

3.       WOF teachers say that God wants his followers rich and healthy why the Bible tells us much money is a vice and Jesus was poor and his followers were killed.  ( Matthew 19:23 ; Luke 12:21 ; 2 Corinthians 8:9 ; 1 Timothy 6:10 ; Hebrews 13: 5 )

4.       WOF teachers tell us that God is helpless without us,  but the Bible says that we are helpless without God . ( Luke 18:27 )

5.       WOF says that we are little gods but the Bible says that there is only one God. ( Isaiah 45:5 )

6.       WOF says that we need to be Positive and have self esteem the Bible Says that we need not be prideful. ( Romans 11:20 ; 2 Timothy 2:3 ; James 4:6 )
